Who We Are - Baptism / Wedding / Funeral
Baptisms
Holy Baptism is the initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body – the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is permanent and represents the outward and visible sign of Christ’s grace at work in our lives now and for ever. We baptize those who come to God in faith in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
In the Episcopal Church, Baptism is the entry rite into the Christian life. Baptism is the only requirement for joining in the Holy Eucharist and all other ministries of the Church.
Each candidate for Holy Baptism is sponsored by one or more baptized persons and persons of all ages are presented on the last Sunday of every month (except during Lent), at the Easter Vigil, when the Bishop makes his visitation, and other occasions when called for by pastoral considerations.
Living Our Baptism Class
We offer this class five different times over the course of the year for those desiring to be baptized and for parents and godparents of infants and young children. In addition, we offer an abbreviated course on the Saturday morning before the scheduled Baptism.
We hope and expect that everyone who is baptized at St. David’s will join us in our mission to know Christ and make Christ known and become an active part of this Christian community.
Baptismal Dates 2010-2011
Weddings
In the Christian faith, marriage is the covenant between a woman and a man entered into before God in the Church. It is never seen as a private event and for that reason weddings take place in the presence of Christian witnesses and invited guests in the presence of God in St. David’s Chapel or Church.
Marriage is a sacramental institution, given to us by God for our mutual joy and is the visible sign of the mystery of the union of love between Christ and the Church – a sign of gracious, sacrificing, faithful love. It is a lifelong commitment by two people to love, honor and cherish one another through life in faithfulness and true godliness.
At least one person, bride or groom, must be a baptized member of St. David’s Church and must apply for their wedding at least six months before the intended date. When the date is set through our wedding coordinator, Judy Krischker, 610.935.9319, judykris@verizon.net, a clergy person will be assigned to provide spiritual direction and guidance in preparation for the marriage. There will be a minimum of three meetings between the bride, the groom and the priest. If either persons has been married previously, permission to marry must be given of the Bishop of the Diocese of Pennsylvania for the wedding to proceed.
We take the bond and covenant of marriage seriously and are delighted to share in this important event.
Funerals
As Christians, we live in the hope and reality that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ – nothing in life; nothing in death. Still, one of the hardest things we face in this life is the death of a loved one.
The clergy, staff, and pastoral care team at St. David’s offer their caring support and expertise to individuals and families through those first difficult days. Our love and care begins with the planning of the funeral to celebrate their life and to offer comfort in the promise of life beyond the door of death by the grace of God.
The Funeral may take place in either the Chapel or the Church and interment may take place before or after the liturgy. St. David’s Memorial Reception committee is available to provide a simple reception in the Fellowship Hall or to work with you to coordinate an outside caterer.
Prior to or at the time of death, please contact the Parish Office and one of our clergy will be in contact with you immediately.
