Come and get it!Feeding Ministry
For more than twenty years, the hungry and the homeless have been fed at St. Augustine’s on Sunday mornings.  St. David’s is an active participant in this vital outreach, preparing and serving breakfast to 80-100 people three Sundays a month:

□ First Sunday - St. David’s Youth Group (St.DYG)
□ Second Sunday -  St. Augustine’s parishioners
□ Third Sunday -  St. David’s parishioners
□ Fourth Sunday -  St. David’s parishioners
□ Fifth Sunday - Church of the Holy Spirit parishioners

St. David's youth prepare and serve breakfast on the first Sunday of the month. This rewarding volunteer activity begins at 7:00 am at St. Augustine’s (1208 Green Street, Norristown, PA 19401) and ends at 9:15 am. Cooking experience is definitely not required - but aprons are!  If you’re interested in joining our Sunday morning feeding ministry, please contact Sherrill Rowland, sherrill.rowland@verizon.net.

St. Augustine Academy
In September, 2009, volunteers from St. Augustine’s and St. David’s opened St. Augustine Academy (SAA), an after-school enrichment program in Norristown for at risk girls in Grades 1 - 4.  We have 10 students who arrive at 3:30 p.m. and are picked up at 6:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

SAA is tuition-free, and is staffed by rotating groups of volunteers and a salaried Program Coordinator. The SAA mission is to supplement classroom learning by offering academic support and enrichment, raising self-esteem and providing useful life skills.

The daily schedule includes a large and healthy snack, homework completion, reading or journal writing, and a special activity. Special activities include: instruction in art, cooking, creative writing, dance, drama, health, horticulture, jewelry-making, mathematics, music, nutrition, public speaking, sewing, and science.

We are very excited about this combined outreach of St. Augustine's and St. David's and know that with the generosity of time and treasure from both congregations, SAA will be viewed as an academic and skill-building oasis for children whose lives are filled with challenge.

We Need Your Help!
If working with these wonderful girls, and making a real difference in their lives, is something you'd like to do, please contact Sherrill Rowland, sherrill.rowland@verizon.net, or Jane Wilson janewilson03@comcast.net. The volunteer commitment is 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Mondays or Wednesdays (mid-September to mid-June). You can volunteer once a year, once a quarter, once a month ... or even more frequently. If you have a limited amount of time but still would like to help, you can volunteer to provide and help serve the girls a healthy snack, arriving at 3:00 and leaving at 4:15.
