Being Stewards of God’s Gifts
“All things come of Thee, O Lord, and of Thine own have we given Thee.” 1 Chronicles 29:14
Stewardship is the use of all that God has given us for God’s purposes. It is about using the gifts God has given us for God in thanksgiving for all that God has done and is doing for us. Good stewardship, the generous use of our gifts promises us a freedom and a life of thanksgiving.
Stewardship begins with the acknowledgment that everything we have—our families, our homes, our work, our abilities and interests, our friends, our ministry and our money—is a gift that has come to us from God. These gifts are not ours. We do not own them. They have been given to us in trust by God. We are God’s stewards for all that God has given us and God expects us to use them well and for God’s purposes.
Stewardship involves the use of our time and talents and money in a way that honors the gifts that God has given us and will set us on a path to a deeper knowledge of God in Jesus Christ and help us to make Christ known.
Each household is invited to find ways to use your time and talents to build up this Christian community and to make a financial pledge based upon a percent of income. This is known as proportional giving. We recognize the Biblical and Episcopal Church’s standard of the tithe, or ten per cent as the standard for giving. And, just as we are growing in our faith and growing in our ability to love God and love our neighbors, so we are called to grow in our stewardship to meet God’s standard.
