St. David's Historic Buildings and Grounds

St. David's is nearly 300 years old. Our worship, education and fellowship spaces exist on nearly 38 acres near Radnor in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Our Property Commission, in conjunction with staff, oversees the day-to-day use and maintenance of our facilities, while ensuring their continued use well into coming centuries.

The Old Church

The Old Church dates from 1715, and has been in continual use, with exception of a few years during the Revolutionary war. The Church is the subject of Henry Wordsworth Longfellow's 1880 poem "Old St. David's Church, Radnor."

St. David's Churchyard

The St. David’s Churchyard is a place of final rest
for those departed as well as a place for reflection, peace, and prayer for those come to visit loved
ones and those who desire reflective place. It is a place of deep history and is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Tree Nursery and Succession Program

The Tree Succession Plan for the graveyard is designed to preserve, enhance and perpetuate the graveyard landscape.  A tree nursery is established on site to serve as a source of stock to be used as the existing trees are replaced.

St. David's Aboretum

In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s the John Newbold Family decided that they wanted to beautify an area at St. David's Church to be used as a memorial place for all the parishioners. An arboretum was established along the creek with the help on many parish volunteers.
